Shoot, I thought I had it until Feanor's post above. Now I'm confused again. Guess I'll have to make time for leavingwt's links, perhaps during lunch break. Thanks for the recommendation, and I apologize if I'm coming across as stubborn. It honestly makes no sense to me and I do want to "get it". I can't say I'll believe it, but I still want to understand it.

How long before you stopped believing armageddon was on your doorstep?
by bubba flavel ini was born into "the truth" back in 1964. i made the big mistake of getting baptised when i was about 14 or so, purely to please my father as i saw how proud he was when my brothers were baptised....didn't work.. we moved to a new congregation when i was about 8, he introduced all my brothers to the congregation by name, a short bio of thier endearing qualities and how proud he was of them, when he introduced me it was "and this is our black sheep of the family, steve".. i remember living in fear at the fast approaching 1975....actually, living in terror is probably a more apt desciption.
all of you will full well know how it was instilled into us at every meeting and assembly how we are living in the last days.. as a 15 year old, a brother dobbed me in for kissing a worldly girl at school.
went through the marked process, judicial committy, disfellowshipped and the shunning which continues to this day by what's left of my family.

I'm with Jeff. I still have inklings of old belief that surface regularly but I no longer really care.
If God wants to destroy me, he will. If he doesn't, he won't. I'm much more concerned with humankind destroying us than I am with God doing it, especially since I'm not even sure God exists as a distinct entity. I lean toward a sort of universal mind more and more nowadays.

Thanks for the expanded response. At this point I'm kind of in-between relationships with any divine being so I have no specific beliefs to insult. Your respectful explanation is appreciated.
Just to clarify that I understand the common Trinity view now (not the one JWs claim). "God" isn't a single entity/being, but rather a single position shared perfectly harmoniously by three individuals, correct? So my "triplets become president" analogy sort of fits? Kind of?

www.jwgift.org is an official "give to the WTS" site but it appears to be for the British branch only? Not sure.

The three persons OPERATE as one God, in perfect harmony.
I'll ask again how can this be? What does that make "God?" if not three people? And if not three people, how not?
I've never seen Trinity explained in any sensible way by either believer or nonbeliever. Seems like doubletalk (or tripletalk, more accurately).

JWs and piracy (digital kind)
by teel ini'd like to hear of other people's experience regarding the jws inclination to pirating software, music, films.. this of course is relative to your country.
because i live in a relatively poor country, the rate of piracy is extremely high, individuals practically never buy software, music and films are bought now and then.
this of course is against the law here too.. so what do jws do?

My old congregation had a local needs part on software/music piracy and the elder came right out and called it stealing. I think he went too far, though, when he said that making a mixtape/CD and giving it away was also stealing.
But I know many JWs who do a share of piracy.
Just FYI to everyone, you're better off with OpenOffice than with a stolen pirated version of MS Office. A lot of the open source stuff is quite good.

Jesus and the Father are the same God, but different Persons.
I don't understand how this could be. Is it like if Barak Obama was triplets and they were all President instead of just one of him?

hitlers speeches /assemblies
by looloo inafter watching a recent documentry on "the final solution" i saw adolf hitler in some huge venue with thousands present public speaking and the crowd were mesmerised and full of praise for him judging by the response he got from them and the applause , i thought back to assemblies when people gave a similar reaction when in affect they were being told millions had to die to make the world a better place for them to live in and nobody seemed bothered by this (except me) and i even thought back then ,that something was not quite right , there was even a mention of a thousand year reign by the third reich , i thought that sounded familiar !
did anyone else think this or do i think weird things ?.

Nowadays, they'd kill for a speaker like Hitler. Most assembly speakers are more like George W. Bush.

Could someone please post a Cliff's Notes version for those of us who don't have time to chase down links or listen to podcasts?
If the Trinity isn't 3-in-1 God, then what is it? And why name it "Trinity?" These shouldn't be complicated questions.

Immortal Soul? Impossible!
by wannabe inimpossible!.
we notice, paul tells us that two things were handed down, to all mankind through the process of inheritance.
the reason being, if the soul was to be immortal, adam himself would have had to pass that on to mankind.

I tend to agree that an immortal soul is impossible but not for any of the reasons in this thread. I try to disbelieve all extraordinary claims that are without proof.
